‘Vegueros’ are the people who tend to the tobacco fields. The Vegueros Cigars brand was created to pay homage to generations of farmers who have grown tobacco. Originally these cigars were made by the people of the fields, for the people of the fields, and not aimed for sales beyond Cuban shores.
It’s at the Francisco Donatien Factory, located in Pinar del Rio, where the Habanos of the Vegueros are made. It was in 1961 when Vegueros Cigars were first produced. It’s factory that was first built in 1868, functioned as a prison and then hospital prior, and was one of the very first casa’s to open its doors to tourists.
Vegeuros cigars have a recognizable green and white band and are very nicely made. They contain mild-tobacco and offer a balanced taste of earth and herbs. With mild flavours and a perfect burn, the likes of the Vegueros Tapados, the Vegueros Mananitas and Vegueros Entretiempos are some of the best cigars for starters.
