Founded in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia, Romeo y Julieta is a brand of premium, hand-rolled Cigars, named after Shakespear’s famous and tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet. 

In the late 1800’s the brand won multiple awards, but really blossomed when it was acquired by Jose ‘Pepin’ Rodriguez Fernandez, who was well travelled and a great promoter of the brand.

The most famous devotee of the Romeo y Julieta cigars brand was Sir Winston Churchill. In 1946 the then British Prime Minister visited Havana, Cuba. In addition to his name being commemorated on the band of a Romeo y Julieta cigar, the showcase vitola of the brand - a long 7 inch x 47 ring gauge stick - was named in his honour - the Romeo y Julieta Churchill.
